Colour Bursts for Grey Days: Small Touches, Big Impact
How to refresh your space with colour, texture and feel-good styling
As the days turn grey, it’s the little things at home that can make the biggest difference. A fresh pop of colour, a new texture, or a piece you simply love can instantly shift the mood of a space. For this edition of Colour Bursts for Grey Days, we’ve partnered with Cassandra McKeon to explore how small, thoughtful styling choices can bring warmth, personality and joy into everyday living. In this blog, she shares her favourite pieces and the simple ways she uses them to brighten her home.

How do you bring warmth and personality into your home on grey or low-energy days?
Slower, grey days are some of my favourite days, and I really lean into creating a cosy atmosphere. I’ll pop on a wall sconce or lamp for softer lighting and light a candle or two. I also love adding pops of colour to my space so no matter what the vibes are outside, my home always feels fun and inviting
What are your go-to “small touches” that instantly make a space feel refreshed?
For me, it’s always the simple things. A quick tidy and reset of surfaces makes a huge difference - clearing clutter, restyling a shelf, or swapping out a tray or decor piece.I also love rotating soft furnishings like cushions or throws depending on the season or my mood. Even something as simple as adding greenery or fresh flowers can completely lift a space and make it feel fresh again without needing to redecorate.
How do you approach adding colour without overwhelming a space?
I like to keep my base quite neutral and then layer in colour through smaller, interchangeable pieces. That way it feels intentional but not overpowering. Things like cushions, artwork, vases or even books are such an easy way to introduce colour in a subtle way.
I also tend to stick to a cohesive palette so everything feels balanced rather than busy. My best tip would be to pull a few colours from your favourite piece of art and use that as a base for your décor items.

Cassandra's picks:
Can you share a simple styling moment in your home that always lifts your mood?
My favourite corner of the house is definitely our dining nook! We designed a built-in bench seat which features some super fun artwork by Jesse Cleay paired with throws and cushions from KAS. This was a fun way to bring in some colour to an other-wise boring corner of the house.

What’s one piece in your home right now that you love and why?
My favourite piece is our Kiki Vase from the Ben David range. It’s one of those pieces that just works in the space - it adds texture and interest without overpowering everything else. I also love how versatile it is, I can move it around the house and it still fits in beautifully. Those are always the pieces I gravitate towards. Not to mention it is constantly getting compliments whenever I have guests over!
How do you want your home to feel at the end of a long day?
At the end of the day, I want my home to feel calm, comfortable and easy to unwind in. Somewhere that feels like a bit of a reset from everything else going on.
For me, that’s soft lighting, a tidy space, and those little styling touches that make it feel personal. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just a space that feels welcoming and makes you genuinely enjoy being home.
Bring It All Together
Cassandra reminds us that creating a home you love doesn’t require a complete overhaul, just thoughtful, intentional touches that reflect your style and lift your mood. Through her use of colour, texture and carefully chosen pieces, she shows how even the simplest updates can transform a space into something warm, personal and inviting. It’s a gentle reminder that styling should feel easy, expressive, and above all, something you enjoy living in every day.
