At Home With Brogan Kate
Welcome to KAS' new blog series 'At Home'. Each week we will be chatting with interior designers, innovators and influencers to take you into their home and finding out how they get their home inspiration. This week we are talking to content creator Brogan Kate.
Can you share with us a little intro into who you are?
I’m Brogan, 33 year old from Tasmania. Mum to Otis and Huxley and wifey to Matt.
I run a social media management business and have been lucky enough to grow my own personal influencing business over the years. I love all things fashion and interior style.
I like to be busy and achieving and am not very great at life in the slow lane. I hate the cold hahaha and live in a very cold place. Noosa is our favourite place and we hope to have an apartment there one day soon! (How fun will it be styling that)
We know you managed to undertake a renovation on your beautiful home whilst still living in the house with two kids, your husband and dog without a laundry or kitchen! What was the biggest takeaway from your renovation experience?
Anything is possible hahaha. It was certainly challenging at times but I think if you are organised, prep meals and have some great support around you it’s absolutely doable.
Looking back at the whole process is there anything you would have done differently?
Not really, obviously Matt (my husband) was working full time/ studying his teaching degree while doing all the work. It was a lot of pressure on him so it would have been great if Matt didn’t have so much going on all at once. But he made it all work which is pretty amazing really.

How long did it take to plan out the renovations for your house?
Maybe a month of going back and forth on a few aspects but we knew what we wanted it to look like. Matt is really creative in that way and he worked alongside a good friend who’s an architect. They bought it all to life in a “visual walk through” which really helped me feel the space and then I got to plan the styling aspects and pick materials which I love doing.
What are your top tips for someone who is renovating their first home?
Take risks, be creative and think outside the box. Everyone does the same thing. We really wanted our space to stand alone and stand out!

Do you have any more renovations in the pipeline?
This extension was planned in two stages. There is an upstairs area which we hope to start undertaking in a year or so.
It’s a parents retreat, master bedroom, another bathroom and toilet AND a huge walk in wardrobe!! I can’t wait.
What are you looking forward to the most in your upstairs master retreat?
My walk in robe hahah, I take up multiple cupboard spaces in the house so I can’t wait to have everything beautifully organised within one space.

Where do you find your interior styling inspiration?
I’m not really sure, I like things clean and simple. I love the scandi vibe but also sleek industrial influences. It was really important for the new extended area to flow with the original part of the house which is 100 years old. The brick feature walls we have are the original demolished bricks and the timber table and vanity were made from the old floor joists that Matt ripped up. The old timber came up so well. I love how these original pieces keep the character alive in the new space.
What has been your favourite space to style in your home?
I love re-styling my bedroom regularly, fresh linen, greenery and fresh art work.
For the rest of the house I love to add new plants all the time. It’s a bit of an inside jungle.
Did you find a particular space in your home a challenge to style? If so, why?
Nope not really, everything here is pretty simple and clean so styling hasn’t been an issue.
If you were to add a bold print or colour to your home, where would you choose to do this?
I don’t really have any colour in my home. Sage/khaki green is about as adventurous as I would be hahaha.
Do you have any tips on how to transform a living space to become more family-friendly?
Keep things simple. I do however have a rule that there are no toy baskets etc in the living area. The kids have great rooms and lots of storage etc so they don't keep their toys in their space. I can’t stand the house looking like a toys shop and love the house to look tidy.

Do you have an essential item/object that you think everyone should include somewhere in their interior styling?
Plants. They bring such a beautiful homely vibe. I’m like the crazy plant lady.
Now we know you're a mum of two boys, what are your top tips when it comes to styling a kids bedroom?
Lots of organised storage. My sister actually has an organisation business (@livinglifeorganised) she’s been super helpful with making sure I’m on the right track with all things organisation. Thank god for her!!!
