Today is a day to celebrate mothers and motherly figures. But we know that today can also be a hard day for those longing to become mothers and for those whose experiences with their own mothers may not meet their expectations.

Join us as we delve into an inspiring conversation with Karen David, the founder of KAS. Karen's remarkable journey of entrepreneurship and motherhood offers insights and wisdom for all mothers navigating the challenges and joys of raising a family while pursuing their dreams. From building her business to raising two boys, Karen's experiences shed light on the beauty and complexity of motherhood, reminding us all of the strength and resilience within every mum.

What were some challenges you faced while running a successful business and raising two boys?

The main challenge was giving the boys all the love they needed. We would bring the boys to work, and we were lucky to have amazing staff who would help look after them in between my work and their work. I can't say it was easy to work and look after the boys, but Steve and I would take turns. Despite the challenges, seeing them grow and succeed made it all worthwhile.

Reflecting on your journey as a mother with now grown-up children, how has your perspective on Mother's Day evolved over the years? Can you share a cherished memory or tradition that your family has for celebrating Mother's Day together?

We are a very close family. Ben has been in the business literally since he was born. Danny came into the business about 14 years ago. Even though we see each other every day, every Mother's Day has always been special, and it is a day that we celebrate together. It's a special day to be with Steve, the boys and their partners, and our granddaughters. Each year, we take the time to appreciate each other and the journey we've been on together.

Reflecting on your experiences, what is one lesson or piece of advice you'd like to offer to new mothers?

Although it's hard to work and look after children, one seems to have the energy to manage both career and motherhood. The advice to bringing up children is always above all to show the boys love, and giving them confidence and compliment them on their achievements. Remember to cherish every moment because they grow up faster than you think.

What advice would you give to other mothers who are considering starting a business but are hesitant due to the challenges of managing both roles?

If you are a mum and have career goals, as long as you are very passionate about your business, motherhood comes naturally, but I must admit it's not easy. It's about finding balance and not being too hard on yourself. Take it one step at a time and don't hesitate to ask for help when needed.

How would you describe your own mum's parenting style, and what have you incorporated into how you brought up your boys?

What I learned about my mum was that she always gave me so much love and complimented me on everything I did. She instilled in me the importance of unconditional love and support, which I've carried into raising my own boys. It's about creating a nurturing environment where they feel loved and encouraged to be their best selves.
